Miguel Cabera wins second consecutive AL MVP

It was announced yesterday, November 14, 2013, that Miguel Cabrera once again has won

the American League Most Valuable Player Award. Miguel ran away with this award being amazingly consistent till a late season injury sidelined him. In fact 2013 may have been a more impressive display of his skill set than his Triple Crown winning 2012 season. Miguel hit .348 with 44 home runs and 137 RBI. That won him 23 of 30 first place votes for his second consecutive MVP award. Since teammate Justin Verlander won the MVP in 2011 the Tigers, as a team, have now won three straight MVP awards.

Max Scherzer wins the 2013 AL Cy Young Award

It was announced, tonight, November 13, 2013, thatMax Scherzer has won the 2013

American League Cy Young award. Scherzer was had an unreal record of 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA. Scherzer also struck out 240 batters in 214.1 innings pitched. He also capped that performance with an unreal 2 innings of relief work in game four of the ALDS, pitching himself out of a no out bases loaded jam to help extend that series which his team ultimately won.

How much will Max Scherzer get paid in 2014?

Max Scherzer just completed a break out season, and will likely win the American League

Cy Young award this week. He has five years of MLB service and that means he is under control of the Detroit Tigers for 2104 and this will be his last time he is arbitrationelgible. He mad 6.725 million dollars in 2013, and that was a big raise over the 3.75 million he made in 2012. Since Scott Boras is his agent it seems very unlikely that Max will sign a multi year extension this off season, which means the Tigers will have to offer him enough money to sing a one year deal or go to Arbitration and see what the panel awards him. The team could trade him, and given their payroll situation they may have too.

Detroit Tigers hire Brad Ausmus to be their manager

It was announced today, November 3, 2103, that Brad Ausmus has been hired to be the next

Manager of the Detroit Tigers. Ausmus becomes the 38th manager in the team's history and he will wear the #7. Ausmus was a player with the Detroit Tigers on three separate occasions for three different seasons. As a player he wore #7 and #12. At the press conference to announce is hire Ausmus commented that he picked #7 over #12 because Andy Dirks currently wears #12 and numbers aren’t that important to him.

Calvin Johnson is the best wide receiver in football!

We already knew that Calvin Johnson was an amazing talent. We heard all the smack talk

from Dez Bryantabout how he was just as good as Megatron. However, while Bryant did have two TD's his contribution to his team's ultimate loss was made more on the sidelines than on the field play. Yesterday, October 27, 2013, all Calvin did was go out and put up the most receiving yards (in a regulation game) ever.

Jim Leyland steps down as manager of the Detroit Tigers

Today, October 21, 2013, the Detroit Tigers held a press conference to allow Manger Jim

Leyland to announce that he was stepping down as skipper of the team he began his baseball life with. Leyland was brought to the team as Manager in 2006 and they responded by making the World Series that year, and another time since. Leyland ends his 8 year run with a 700-597 record as Tigers’ skipper with three divisional crowns, and two American League pennants. His reign in Detroit will always be looked on with a sense of unfinished business as Leyland never managed a Tigers team to a World Series championship.
