I found the show before I got into the books. I was all into it till episode 9. I remember sitting in my old office thinking there is no way they are going to kill Ned Stark...
After that episode I decided I needed to read the books, and It was like getting punched right in the feels. As bad as the worst moments are on TV they are way worse in the books.
However I really do like how George RR Martin takes characters we should hate (IE Jamie Lannister) and then they go one this journey and you start to sympathize with them. You see where they are coming from, and start to understand them. It pains me greatly to like a guy whose first major act in this universe it to push a little kid out of a window.
With all of that being said, and having just rewatched seasons 1 and 2 This is the gif that most accurately descries my feelings on becoming involved with this fandom.

30 Day Game of Thrones Challenge...Who do you ship?
For those of you who do not speak fangirl the urban dictionary defines ship:
V: To endorse a romantic relationship.
Now I like to argue that you cannot ship characters that are already in a relationship, but the fangirls in my life tend to get a little irate over that distinction. I am also not one to be a big fan of all the bigger fan ship's of Game of Thrones. I most assuredly do not ship Sansa and Sandor Clegane. That is just idiotic. I am also not a big fan of the Gendry/Arya ship cause I think Arya's story arc is one of the best things going in this universe.
I think when it all gets boiled down I ship Jamie Lannister and Brienne of Tarth. I really think those two characters understand each other and care for one another. However, I don't like to admit that cause it has been a long standing fan boy/fan girl argument between me and someone about shipping people that are in a relationship and I completely think by book six Jamie and Brienne will be an item.
I think of all the people in Game of Thrones they are the two that have the most in common. They really are an ideal couple. And let's be real honest Jamie has not been with anyone but his twin sister so that makes almost anyone else an improvement. With that being said I really think that Briene would be good for him, and him for her.
Beyond all that I would really like Tyrion Lannister to find someone. I do not mean Shae, and it is such an injustice what people who only saw the TV show think about her compared to what she actually does in the books. I do not mean the little dwarf girl either cause Tyrion needs someone that can keep up with his intellect, and someone who can challenge him. That is why I don't think he and Sansa are a great pairing. I am not sure I could think of one female in Westeros that could handle him.
The next step after shipping is OTP which stand for one true pairing and every good fanboy or fangirl has one for every fandom. I wish I could say I have one for Game of Thrones but I don't think I do. I would say Dany and Jon Snow, but it seems pretty clear they are brother and sister and even though that is what the Targaryens do. It seems wrong to ship incest in anyway, even if it is theoretical incest.

30 day Game of Thrones challenge: Day 4...Fave house
This is kind of a tough one. I mean the easy answers, and the most popular, would be House Stark or House Targaryen. I like both of those houses, and really I like all the houses cause I am the biggest Game of Thrones nerd you know. However, When I answer this question I always think about who are the most interesting characters of A Song of Ice and Fire? When you think about it like that the choice becomes clear, even though it will be very unpopular. Therefore I decree that my fave house is House Lannister of Casterly Rock.
I mean I already confessed that Tyrion Lannister is my favorite character. I think those of us who have read all the books thus far have a deeper understanding of the struggles of Jamie Lannister. Cersei is a total bitch but damn are her chapters fun to read. Tywin is the ultiamte bad ass, and he may suck at parenting but damn is he the last guy to mess with. Lancel sucks, and so does his dad really. And let us not forget the guy we all love to hate that miserable little prick Joffrey. Put come on in a world where we route for the bad guys kind of a lot (Tony Soprano, and Jax Teller come to mind) why not enjoy the dysfunction that is the Lannisters.
I guess the one draw back here is while they were bringing about the fall of House Stark, thanks to Joffrey, they get completely out maneuvered by House Tyrell and we learn who plays the Game of Thrones the best. That really crazy old bitch who might become all of our's favorite if she continues to be awesome on the TV show. Queen of Thorns is a heck of a nickname and even a thorn can bring down a lion.
House Lannister is my favorite because of Tyrion, and Tywin, and Jamie. They have my favorite characters and really they have the most hated characters. That is a very interesting dynamic to me and it is very entertaining. At the end of the day that is what it is all about.
